What Is the Crankcase Vent Valve Diaphragm?
Think of the diaphragm as a vacuum regulator. The intake manifold naturally generates vacuum whenever the engine is running. If that vacuum were connected directly and unrestricted to the crankcase, it would pull far too much vacuum inside the engine.
