The original 2003 Continental GT produced 550 bhp from its twin-turbo W12, used a six-speed transmission and sent power to all four wheels. The second generation added the 4.0-liter V8 in 2012 while retaining the W12 as the flagship engine.1

Bentley's published maintenance program for qualifying four-year-old and older vehicles uses 10,000-mile service increments, with a larger service scope at 20,000-mile intervals. It also identifies time-based replacements including brake fluid every two years, spark plugs every three years and engine coolant every five years.3

A Continental may maintain normal coolant temperature during a short shop visit yet struggle in slow traffic with the air conditioning operating.

The inspection should account for:

  • Restricted radiator or condenser faces
  • Weak cooling fans or fan-control faults
  • Coolant residue around pumps, hoses and fittings
  • Pressure loss after the engine is shut down
  • Degraded coolant or an incorrect mixture
  • Stored cooling-system faults
  • Air trapped after previous repairs
  • A/C condenser heat adding to the cooling stack's workload

Repeatedly topping off a low reservoir is not a repair. The source must be identified with the engine cold, using the correct cooling-system pressure testing procedure.

Battery condition affects far more than starting

A voltage event can generate faults in several modules, alter suspension behavior and produce warning messages that appear unrelated to the battery. A Continental that is driven infrequently should receive battery and electrical diagnostics covering capacity testing and charging-system evaluation — not merely a static voltage reading.

When low-voltage faults recur, the next steps are to evaluate terminal condition, grounds, sleep current, charging strategy and vehicle usage. Replacing the battery without investigating a parasitic draw or power-management problem can lead to the same complaint returning.

Current hybrid Continentals require equipment suitable for their specific 12-volt lithium chemistry. Published service information for 2025 models specifies a compatible constant-current/constant-voltage or pure constant-voltage charger and limits charging voltage to 14.8 volts.5 A conventional charger should not be connected by assumption.

Tires and alignment are performance components

A Continental's weight and torque can expose an alignment or pressure problem quickly. Inner-shoulder wear may remain hidden unless the car is lifted, while a small pressure imbalance can affect steering response and ride quality.

Pressures should be set cold to the vehicle placard — not the tire sidewall — and staggered front and rear specifications must be respected. A four-wheel alignment should include ride-height verification and an explanation of the measured before-and-after values.

Symptom-led Bentley Continental diagnostics

Most Continentals arrive with a symptom rather than a diagnosis, which is where Bentley check-engine-light diagnostics begin. A technical service bulletin identifies a documented diagnostic path; it does not prove that every vehicle has the described defect. W12 oil leaks can travel before reaching the undertray

On 2018–2023 W12 applications covered by a Bentley technical bulletin, split O-rings at the breather return line or dipstick tube can allow oil to run down the engine and collect around the sump. That path can make a relatively localized seal failure appear to be a larger lower-engine leak.6

The correct sequence is to clean the affected area, inspect the upper leak paths and confirm the source before estimating sump work. This approach reduces unnecessary disassembly and gives the owner a repair supported by evidence.

Low coolant on later W12 models requires confirmation

For applicable W12 vehicles, documented symptoms include coolant-pump leakage, a low-level warning, overheating and fault P218100 for cooling-system performance. The diagnostic procedure calls for a cold pressure test, inspection of the mechanical coolant pump and a hydrocarbon test when specified.7

Visible staining does not automatically prove an active leak. The system should be pressure tested, photographed and rechecked after a road test when the initial result is inconclusive. If coolant has entered connected vacuum plumbing, the associated control circuit must also be evaluated rather than treating the pump as an isolated component.

V8 fuel-pressure faults need live-data analysis

Some 2019–2023 V8 Continental GT and GTC models may log fuel-pressure or misfire faults including P310B00, P014800, P019100 and P018B00. Applicable diagnostic guidance calls for comparing requested and actual low-side pressure, checking pump-control-module connections and verifying pressure mechanically.8

The expected low-side pressure during starting or idling is generally 400–800 kPa for the covered condition. After shutdown, pressure should remain at or above 400 kPa for at least ten minutes.8 A technician who records these values can distinguish a supply, retention, sensor, wiring or control problem before expensive parts are installed.

Air-suspension complaints are not always compressor failures

On applicable 2018–2024 Continentals, unusual raising or lowering while parked — or a hard ride — can be associated with rear shock-absorber leakage, damage or misalignment. The documented repair path begins with inspection of both rear dampers and calls for a four-wheel alignment check after replacement.9

Other suspension complaints may originate from air lines, valve blocks, height sensors, wiring, control faults or calibration. Accurate air-suspension and brake service therefore combines measured ride height, a pressure or leak test, visual inspection and scan data. Compressor replacement should follow confirmation that the compressor is defective, not serve as the first diagnostic step.

Brake noise should be classified before parts are quoted

Continental brake squeal can result from worn friction components, incomplete bedding, rust, embedded debris, grooved rotors, chemical contamination or pad material transferred onto the disc while parked. A vibration in Park may come from external contact
